@ErkThaJerk Hits #1 on Hip-Hop Charts as Bay Area Artists Dominate The Top 40 this week

Bay Area artists are dominating our top 40 charts this week. Richmond, CA’s very own Erk Tha Jerk hits #1 with “Monumental” off his recently released Airplane Mode project. Erk has been active this year dropping a dope EP prior to the release of the LP.

Coming in at #2 on our charts this week is Bay Area veteran, LocksmithArrow with “Blinded”. This song is the first single off his upcoming album, Lofty Goals, which comes out on June 30th. The trackArrow features Funk Volume artist, Jarren Benton as well Phoenix-based emcee, Futuristic. The trackArrow is produced by HBK Gang/The Invasion producer, Kuya Beats. 2. Locksmith – Blinded (ft. Jarren Benton & Futuristic) (prod. Kuya Beats)

Coming in at #3 is San Jose State alumn, Mohamedx with “10k”. This track is the second track to kill it on our rotation by the San Jose-based emcee, Mohamedx (the x is silent). His album, Dxrty Dozen dropped today.

Coming in at #4 are East-Bay emcees Oops & Beejus with their track, “Old School Mackin”. After the success of Beejus’ track “Too Much Slap” which featured Oops, the duo are back with a collaboration. Shout outs to Dee-Tr3yn for bringing this track to our attention. Listen to the track below

Coming in at #5 is another collaboration by Bay Area artists. “Culture Freedom” sees veterans Zion I & Locksmith linking for a dope track. This is their first collaboration since Locksmith appeared on the track, “Polarity”., 5 years ago. Ironically Macklemore, who was unknown then was also on that track. Fast forward 5 years and the two lyricists are back at it again over a dope Aagee beat. Check out the track below:

This is the first I remember five Bay Area artists being the top 5 on our top 40, and I have been part of this station and playing a hand in programming since 2010. What a better week for this to happen than this week where we see the Bay Area’s Golden State Warriors celebrating winning the NBA Championship. Yay Area we got you when it comes to groundbreaking Hip-Hop in our region. Thats not to say we shy away from music from other regions, nope, we mess wit all of that, but this week belongs to the Bay Area. Yadadaiiiimean. – StrongArm
