@DaLocksmith Hits #1 AGAIN! with “10KONDRMS”

Bay area emcee Locksmith has been on fire this year. From hot Team Backpack cyphers, to a national tour with Zion I, Los Rakas, Kev Choice & more, to releasing his critically acclaimed Lofty Goals album. The album is what i like to describe as a culmination of the themes and styles of his previous two efforts The Green Box and A Thousand Cuts. With features from Chris Webby, Futuristic, Jarren Benton, Jarell Perry and the very talented Marc E Bassy, Lock not only shows his lyrical skills on several tracks, spittin tough bars over suitable instrumentals, but also his storytelling and emotional side we heard a lot of on A Thousand Cuts. This week he hits #1 for the 2nd time in just the past month with “10KONDRMS” (pronounced Ten k on da rims). This track is definitely the side of Lock which aims to show you how much wordplay and lyricism he has to offer.

Coming in at #2 this week is Asher Roth with “That’s Cute”. With some dope Chuck Inglish production, Asher flexes his lyrical ability on this track which is catchy and has a dope vibe. Check it out below.

Coming in at #3 are San Jose natives Yates and Ziggy who have both been on fire this year. Each releasing a project of their own, however this track “Rollin Ridin” is on neither project, but rather just a loose track they dropped for the fans. I asked Yates why this dope cut didn’t make his recently released Good Intent project, and he responded “It just didn’t fit in with the rest of the tracks and vibe of the project”. I liked that answer because it illustrated that these young emcees are not only dropping quality music but making sure that their projects deliver a cohesive message/vibe.

Coming in at #4 is the first leak off Chuuwee and Tr1zz’s upcoming “Amerikka’s Most Blunted 2” project which is a sequel to their project from last year. The track sees them seemlessly gliding over the dope instrumental by Saro. This track is a personal favorite of mine.

4. Chuuwee & Tr1zz – “Matter Fact” (prod. Saro)

Coming in at #5 is the first single off Statik Selektah’s Lucky 7 album which features a gang of dope emcees. This one sees two of New York’s hottest rappers Action Bronson and Joey Bada$$ spitting bars over Statik’s jazzy instrumental. Check it out below.
