Concert Review – Kaskade @ Club Darc, Pier 48 4/17

By Charlotte Campbell

Club Darc is a brand new 21+ venue that opened up in March in San Francisco, so, already, it was exciting to get to go to a new venue I’ve never seen before. Initially, walking in, the line was long, but it moved pretty quickly. What was super interesting and different there was that when you get in you get phone camera sticker covers! You can, of course, take them off, but I like the thought and it keeps people present!

Honestly, embarrassing to admit, but I had never even heard of Kaskade prior to this rave, let alone gone to many raves, but I wanted to try something new! Low and behold this guy is HUGE! Ask anyone over thirty about Kaskade and it’s more likely than not that they know the guy. Turns out he’s actually a very very big deal and had just performed at Coachella, too! He performed a top-to-bottom set which means he performed from around 9 to 2 am. I’ve heard this is pretty rare and I’m so happy I got to see it because he was great. He played some of his popular songs and then moved on to remixes of popular songs and it was so fun. The entire crowd was moving and dancing. His visuals and lights were really cool too, which really completed the vibe.

Everyone in the crowd was so kind. I got adopted by a group of people who took us all the way up to the front, right in the middle. I have always wanted to be sprouted, and I finally was! I got three little clips pinned to me, and I just started giving people random things I had on me. Everyone does their best to stay in their own space, and are very respectful of one another. Probably the best crowd I’ve seen so far of any show I’ve ever been to.

All in all, I really enjoyed seeing Kaskade. It opened up a whole new world of shows for me because I usually go to more indie or rock shows. Club Darc was huge, ventilated, had great sound, and the camera stickers were awesome. He definitely gained a fan that night, and his fans are really cool. If you are into electronic, maybe want to get into raves more, or are just expanding your horizons, I absolutely recommend Kaskade!
