Sold out show at the Great American Music Hall. SMOKEDOPE2016: THE PEAK TOUR with Nokia Angel
By Brandon Gonzalez
Smokedope2016 brought fellow collaborator, Swiss singer/rapper, Nokia Angel and DJ/ Producers LIL FITTED CAP and BARTESIANWATER. First gaining notoriety for bringing back a nostalgic cloud rap sound and aesthetic, smokedope hit the nail in the coffin with The Peak Tour: Presented by Minty Boi live at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco.

Merch line was long before the show started as they had some good pieces to choose from having a selection of shirts, hoodies, flags, lighters and more. My favorite pieces being smokedopes “#THE PEAK™” Flag and Nokia Angel’s Tour Tee.
The concert started with a euro-style electronic DJ set by Nokia Angel’s producer, BARTESIANWATER, incorporating 2010s rap as well which the crowd thoroughly enjoyed as well as myself. BARTESIANWATER closing off his set, introducing Nokia Angel with an ominous intro to the first song, Stay Cold, off his most recent album, In Haze setting the tone for Nokia’s set. Playing new and old tracks Nokia Angel put on an amazing show engaging with the crowd.

Smokedope2016 has his set start off strong with LIL FITTED CAP DJing. The feedback from the crowd as smokedope began his performance was remarkable, the crowd having such high energy as they played notable tracks like “Frat” and “White Owls”. Towards the middle of the show, smokedope introduced his friend and collaborator Hackle from Northern California collective Haunted Mound playing their recently released song “Buff”.
Nokia Angel joined smokedope back on stage to play their two collab songs, smokedope’s “Sleep” and Nokia’s “All Mine” presenting their respective fans a great show. Closing off his set, smokedope playing one of his most top streamed song, “In the Party” as many people in the crowd joined him on stage going crazy as he performed his last song closing off the night perfectly.
To say I was excited to see these two perform would be an understatement, the energy in the room the entire night was set so perfectly. I hope to see more music soon from both Smokedope2016 and Nokia Angel and what the future holds for their careers.

What stood out to me that was interesting was the “European vibe” for the night, specifically with Nokia Angel and his opening producers DJ set, and how the energy was good and never really fell once the show started.
I love how clearly you described your experience at the show. I really liked how you described the energy of the crowd! What was your favorite song of the night?
